Danish zoo says lion dissection will be educational for children



A Danish zoo’s plan to publicly dissect a lion has been mostly well-received in the country, an attitude decidedly different from the international outrage over a different zoo’s dissection of a giraffe named Marius in early 2014

Odense Zoo, about 105 miles west of Copenhagen, put down the female lion in February because they had too many of them and no other zoo would take it. It has been kept in a freezer since, and will be dissected Thursday, to coincide with school holidays.

On its Facebook page, the zoo acknowledged the debate but said public dissections are educational for children. Most of the comments (read with help from Google translate) support the zoo’s decision. Many of the commenters are parents who say their children learned a lot from the experience. Read more…
