Leaders’ climate change pledges fall far short of ‘safe’ target, report finds



Ahead of a crucial round of United Nations climate change negotiations that begin in less than two months, a new analysis shows that world leaders’ climate plans still fall well short of what scientists say needs to be done to avoid potentially devastating climate change impacts

Such impacts may include collapsing ice sheets — which would raise sea levels so high that the world’s largest coastal cities, from Shanghai to New York, could be threatened — to the likely extinction of countless species in sensitive but ecologically rich areas such as the tropical rainforests and coral reefs of the world.
