Mama panda adorably scoops up newborn at National Zoo



The Smithsonian National Zoo welcomed its newest member Saturday afternoon.

Giant panda Mei Xiang gave birth Saturday afternoon to a cub that zoo officials have described as “showing all signs of being healthy and happy.” The birth marks the first giant panda to be born in the United States this year.

“She delivered the cub nicely, scooped it right up,” the zoo’s head veterinarian, Dr. Don Neiffer, said during a press conference Saturday. “Mom’s being a great mother.” Read more…
